here's my deal: i am currently running Mac OS X Leopard on a mid-2009 macbook pro(my first Mac ever- freaking LOVE IT!). i want to upgrade to Snow Leopard (not Lion as of yet) but before i do that i have been told to backup my internal hard drive.
so, because i do not want to lose anything on my mac (thing like movies, music, and more importantly documents, applications/programs and settings configured to my liking) i plan on getting 2 hard drives. the first- a 1tb or 1.5tb desktop hard drive. and the second- a 500gb portable hard drive.
WHAT MY QUESTION IS- can i use the portable hard drive (that might be connected for the majority of the time) with Apples TIME MACHINE -updating constantly? Then use the desktop hard drive with Clone Carbon Copy -to make boot-able/mirrored clones once a week or so?
Will there be any conflict? is this the right way to go (2 hard drive, 2 different backup programs)? do you have a better way of doing this?- a message board person recommended Raid 1 but i have no idea what that is and how to use that. Also, for the either external hard drive runnin CCC or TM- after backing up, if i take the hard drive to a friends house and want to copy music/movies/docs/whatever on to my hard drive, can i still use it as a plug and play hard drive for storage?

The other issue is that your computer isn't configured to boot off of the CD. You will need to change this setting in your system's BIOS(basic input output system).
To do this, start your computer and watch the screen for something like:
"To enter setup mode, press DEL"
It's probably DEL, but it may be F2 or F11, the screen will tell you.
This takes you into your BIOS configuration.
Note: When in BIOS, if you don't know what it is, DON'T CHANGE IT. You can seriously mess things up. If you accidentally change something, you can hit ESC, and choose "don't save"
What you are looking for is an option for "Boot order". Just move around in the menus until you find it, just don't change anything while you are doing this.
Once you find it, change the boot order to:
1) CD
2) Hard drive
After you change it, hit ESC and choose Save settings.
Now your system will look for a bootable CD in the drive, and boot off of that before it goes to the hard drive to load Windows.

I have it "Docked" with a Monitor and Keyboard & keep the laptop itself in a "Drawer" with a cooling fan so pulling it out to turn it on by the Power Button is annoying so at night, I put her to "Sleep" but when I resume it from Sleep, the "RealTek PCIe GBE Family Controller" Isn't detected... At all... Though sometimes if I turn it on and leave it for a good half an hour, EVENTUALLY the computer will detect the card and Internet will be restored.
It doesn't show up in Network Connections.
It doesn't show up in Device Manager.
According to the computer, it's as if I removed it.
I used to be able to just restart the computer and it would show up but lately I've had to shut it down, unplug the modem, then turn it all back on fresh to get it to detect and it's getting really annoying.

Another option that you can try is to go to the control panel and click on internet options. There you will be able to reset all settings to default. This usually will fix errors such as that. If you have internet explorer 8, then you can just use Windows Update to install Internet Explorer 9.

He is right about the hard drive being the slowest part of your system but you will only see some improvements while loading and starting the game. "Loading" caches what you need onto the RAM so once you are done loading the hard drive is irrelevant

so poor thermal design, cheap parts, overall poor quality is not unknown to HP/Compaq.
the laptops also comes with crapware, which is useless junk you'd never need, it loads on start up every time and loads down the computer, uses up the resources and slows hte whole system down. worse, it can be hard to remove becasue
A: some of it doesn't come out in one go, its like a virus- very hard to remove
B: you can't tell whether its a important system/hardware program or its some crappy junk
C: you can't uninstall it unless you're in safe mode / you're not the admin even tho you're the admin.
Macs are different.
1 the operating system is way better than PC. its more efficient with resources and doesn't load down the computer.
2 all modern macs have been properly designed and made to a strict set of engineering controls set in place by apple
3 cosmetic (looks) are not before function & design. (most PCs look good- its to cover up shoddy construction and cutting corners on things like quality control & good thermal design)
4 the hardware is designed to work with a specific type of software, and vise versa for software, it will work with only a few kinds of hardware. this eliminates common compatibility issues found in PC systems.
how to fix your laptop and you don't have money to buy a new PC:
downgrade to windows XP. transfer files you want to save to a cd/dvd/flash drive, obtain a legal copy of windows XP, install windows XP on the computer after a full format of the hard drive.
^^ prior to install, its a good idea to get the various drivers you will need- such as the audio driver, wifi/network driver, webcam/mic driver, video driver. you may not have access to the internet immediately following the reinstall of windows. having the drivers available on a flash drive would make it so much easier.
&& also review, study up on how to reformat & install windows on a computer, its not really a complex process but sometimes things do go wrong, if you know some background info about it you're less likely to run into a problem you can't solve.

By the way, TFT monitors, due to their design, hide jaggies a lot better than most LCDs. When I had a TFT monitor, 4x AA pretty much removed all jaggies; unless you stuck your face right up to the screen, it wasn't noticeable. However, on my two LCD monitors, I can still see some (not many, but more than I saw with 4x AA on my TFT monitor) jaggies with 16xQ AA.

Basically I would think the HDD is toast and there is no recovering it at this point.
New HDD would be recommended.
If you created your emergency disks you should be able to use them to install the new HDD.

But Im a bit worried. My charger popped out when I shifted in my bed, and I accidentally rolled onto the tip with my bare leg, and it BURNED. Like, fresh outta the oven hot.

Unplug your computer while it is on.
You should get a screen asking what mode you wnat to run it in. Run it in Safemode.
This could be a corrupted drive that is doing this to your computer. If you run it in safe mode it will only use Window Core drivers. If it still persists, please tell me at Ezra_zurowski@sbcglobal.net

get one of those drives, laptop drives are pretty much standard size.
if you have a older laptop with only a CD drive, it could be an IDE interface, which will be hard to come by new in a laptop drive.

To solve:
A) Open the control panel > personalization > resolution and move the slider or drop-down menu for Vista and Win. 7. For XP, do as Titus said and right click the desktop, select properties, open the settings tab and adjust from there.
B) Open up personalization from the control panel and select magnification I believe. Change that however you like.

at first i thought that my hand accidentally brushed over the trackpad or something, but i tried lifting my hand up, type each key slowly, and it still happen. there is no specific key that cause this problem, it just does these things randomly.
