Open Question: What is a great document scanner?

Open Question: What is a great document scanner?

That isn't a function of the scanner but of the OCR software you're using.

If you've Microsoft Office then you can use Microsoft Office Document Imaging. It's very good but not usually part of the standard MS Office install so you may need to go to "Add or Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" in your Control Panel. Find MS Office, right click on it and choose "Change".

From the popup that appers choose "Add or Remove Features" and select Microsoft Office Document Imaging from the Tools section. The document needs to be in TIF format for the OCR to work.

Recent editions of MS Office also come with OneNote which has its own OCR engine. See http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/14595/ocr-anything-with-onenote-2007-and-2010/

Other than that you're going to have to look for other OCR programs.

Textbridge - http://shop.nuance.com/store/nuanceus/en_US/pd/productID.111906300?resid=TUqrgwoBAlUAABLuU84AAAAC&rests=1307980408172 - is very good, but take a look at http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-5-free-ocr-software-tools-to-convert-your-images-into-text-nb/ for reviews of some free ones.

Open Question: Why does TATA Photon+ does not work properly.....?

Open Question: Why does TATA Photon+ does not work properly.....?

Well, that doesn't seem to be true. It should work properly. After all, it was chosen product of the year. If you find slow speed, then contact TATA Photon service providers, and they'll help you:

1800 266 121

Well, if your speed is about 500 KPBS or more, than there's no problem, because the promised speed by an ISP never comes.

Open Question: is 7 gb good for internet service if not how many gb of internet do i need?

Open Question: is 7 gb good for internet service if not how many gb of internet do i need?

REVISED:

7 gb can't be a download speed. 7 mb/s would be a medium fast rate, able to handle streaming a movie or two easily. That's only 1/1000th the speed of 7 gb/s (which can only be reached over dedicated fiber optic cables)

If you're talking about a monthly quota of 7 GB, that's a disaster for you because that's only a handful of movies (at 1-2 GB each). You'll quickly run out of monthly quota at that rate.

Open Question: Will my computer be able to play fallout 3?

Open Question: Will my computer be able to play fallout 3?

The video card is questionable. You'll most likely have to stick to lower resolutions and mostly low settings. The minimum card required is the GeForce 6800GT or the Radeon X800. If we consult the handy video card hierarchy chart here
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card-game-performance-radeon-hd-6670,2935-7.html

We can see that the Radeon 5450 falls in at a tier below the 6800 and X800. So it would stand to reason that your Fallout 3 experience will be less than great.

I don't know what they guy who says you'll be able to run the game at med/high settings is smoking. Obviously if your video card doesn't meet the minimum specs, that will not be the case.

Open Question: Is my motherboard short circuited?

Home >All Categories > Computers & Internet >Hardware >Add-ons >Open QuestionAndy R Andy R Member since:March 23, 2008Total points:100 (Level 1)I bought a case, switched everything over and hooked up everything correctly but nothing turns on. I should mention that when I screwd in the motherboard I only put 4 screws in, and forgot to put in the standoff screws under it. But all the times I tried to turn it on there was no smoke spark or anything. Do those screws matter much? How can I test the motherboard to see it its broken now?Answer Question

Open Question: My laptop seems possessed...?

Open Question: My laptop seems possessed...?

Well, I bought a used Compaq Presario V6000 V6205NR and when I got it, everything was fine for about two months. Then it started doing this deal where the computer would boot up, but the screen was dark, then it would restart itself, and it repeated this process.

I tried replacing the motherboard twice and it's been the same thing since. I don't think it's a memory issue, but I could be wrong.

Can anyone help me out here? Please?

what is the difference? and is having a blu-ray better then the dvd one?
please help :)Answer Question

wokan by wokan Member since:June 29, 2008Total points:1,963 (Level 3)A blu-ray drive can read blu-ray discs, DVDs, and CDs (and often HD-DVDs as well). A DVD drive can't read blu-rays. It's similar to the difference between a DVD drive and a CD drive.Andrew S by Andrew S Member since:December 29, 2008Total points:54,655 (Level 7)A blu-ray drive will play blu-ray discs in addition to regular DVDs and CDs. That means high definition video and much greater capacity when used for data. However, my thought are that unless you want to play HD movies now leave it for the time being - blu-ray drives are still expensive, and by the time they are commonly used for data the cost of them will have plummeted.Springheel Jack by Springheel Jack Member since:February 23, 2009Total points:626 (Level 2)A Blu-ray drive can read Blu-ray discs, a DVD drive can only read DVD's and CD's. I don't own a Blu-ray player, but I assume it can play normal DVD's as well, so the Blu-Ray player is better if you have a lot of Blu-ray movies you want to watch.

Open Question: Computer won't start!?

Until about a week ago my sons ASPIRE ONE laptop was running fairly smoothly Since then when I try to boot it up ... it gives it a good try and then displays the following screen meassage on a black screen:

We apologise for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, started unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to recent to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous start up attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

Safe mode
Safe Mode with networking
Safe Mode with Command prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings

Start Windows Normally (default highlight box on this option)

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

I have tried all the above options... but always come back with the same screen and message.
It does not have a cd drive. Can anyone help? Do not need to keep anything saved to laptop.

Open Question: What kind of Laptop should I buy?

In my opinion, Toshiba's are best! :), they have good memory, great for storing files etc, easy to work with, only thing is that they take a while to turn on. (a couple of Min's)
i think there better than dell, and other brands.
i have a toshiba for my (school work) but ended up using it for everything because it was allot better than my other one lol.
also, key board is set up nicely and evenly...

PLUS!... there one of the most cheapest to get... i live in the uk, and when i got mine 2 years ago, it was Just under £300... have a look in your local computer/laptop shop thingy lol... but yea... Toshiba :)

Answer Question

iLoveU by iLoveU Member since:March 19, 2008Total points:2,717 (Level 4)Generally that means your HD failed or you need to reinstall your Operating System. You can contact Toshiba support on their site and explain to them that you don't have your reinstallation and recovery disks and they will send them to you/help you.

Open Question: external hard drive not reading?

Home >All Categories > Computers & Internet >Hardware >Add-ons >Open Questionschisima schisima Member since:August 18, 2008Total points:178 (Level 1)Sometimes it reads, sometimes it doesn't. I have another external hard drive and it works fine and it's not the wire, it's definitely an issue with the hard drive itself not registering with the computer. I cleaned the contact points the best I could but it still seems like it reads the drive sporadically. I just want it to read one more time so I can get the data off of it before I chuck it.Answer Question

Open Question: Will gta iv run on my laptop dell inspiron n5030?

Open Question: Will gta iv run on my laptop dell inspiron n5030?

No it will not run on that laptop. GTA IV is a very demanding game, you may be able to get it to start but it will be so slow to the point it will be unplayable.

You should be able to run older games in the series without much trouble though ;)
