Open Question: Computer Start Up Soooo Slow!?

Open Question: Computer Start Up Soooo Slow!?

I'm trying to work on my grandma's computer. It's a Toshiba Satellite, so it's not that great anyways, but it takes FOREVER to start up. All I've done is change some things on Start Up, install Malware Bytes, SpyBot, and AVG, and have just been running them. I'm pretty sure there is a virus on there somewhere, but regardless, it still takes forever for the computer to boot up, even to get Windows to start. When Windows has started, clicking on something takes :30-:45 seconds before anything happens.

What am I missing?

I am very aware that my grandma's computer is a piece of crap. On the other hand, they still that WebTV is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Literally. So this is a step up.

Open Question: My COMPUTER keeps saying this"C:\Users\(my name)\AppData\Roaming\pl-PLQ.dll ...."?

I can't be certain, but that might be a left-over reference from a recently removed virus.

You can try using system restore (Start->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore) and roll back your system to before this problem, but that may or may not be possible.

If you have an anti-virus software package installed (and you should) you can run a full scan and see if that picks up the offending link.

Otherwise, I'd download http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ and run it to get rid of the junk in your system. Then use the registry cleaner section to get rid of whatever is calling that missing .DLL

Open Question: wireless keyborad won't work?

First, try these steps:
1) Replace the batteries in your devices.
2) Re-install the software/drivers that came with your keyboard/mouse. If you can't find the CD: go to the manufacturer's website; click 'support'; find your device; and download the software/drivers. Install.
3) Still not working? Continue.
4) Hold down the little sync/connect button on your blue-tooth dongle(assuming it has one)
5) press the connect button usually located on the bottom of your mouse/keyboard.
6) Still not working? Call tech support.

Additionally:
Go to: Start -> Control Panel -> Device Manager

Do you see any Yellow Question marks? Under Keyboards or Human Interface Devices do you see your keyboard listed? If not: Try rolling back the driver or another USB jack.

If you're using Windows XP: make sure you're using at least SP2. SP1 didn't like certain input devices. Right click "My computer" in the start menu, select "Properties", and then view your SP under the system tab.

Open Question: Please help on processor picking! ^.^?

Okay so I built this computer and currently I have the i5-2500K Processor and I was looking at the i7 processor and I don't really see a difference in speed so how is the i7 more better?

Links:
i5-2500K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072&cm_re=i5-2500K-_-19-115-072-_-Product

this is the only i7 processor that fits my motherboard, and I'm currently happy with the i5 which idk why it says it jumps up to 3.7GHz on turbo boost when I've seen it go up to 4.2GHz!

so please, as much detail as possible! act as if you were trying to convince me to by the i7 over the i5 thanks! ^.^

Open Question: Which laptop CPU should i get?

Open Question: Which laptop CPU should i get?

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-480M Dual Core Processor (2.66GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz

OR

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-560M Dual Core Processor (2.66 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz --- $75 more

I would love to get an i7, but the price is too much for me and I don't do insane gaming. I am customizing a HP Envy laptop and I'm stuck between these two so please help! From what I can see the only difference is that the more expensive one has a slightly higher GHz. Is it worth paying more for it?

I will use the laptop for browsing and gaming mostly and would like to be able to open lots of apps without lag.

Open Question: Need some help picking a laptop for college!?

Open Question: Need some help picking a laptop for college!?

So this fall I'll be starting college and I wanted some advice on what laptop would be best for me. I will need it to last four years and it doesn't matter what brand, processor, OS, or anything my college supports it all. Personally, I would like to stay away from Macs, but it's whatever here is my requirement/wish list.

Budget: Around $1000
Processor Speed: Pretty fast, nothing less than i5 or an equivalent, 2.3 GHz and up
Screen Size: nothing really big, since I would like portability so anything from 13.3 to about 15/16
Battery Life: 4 hours and over would be great
RAM: 6 or over
Hard Drive: 500GB and over
*Webcam
*Backlit keyboard would be cool, but not necessary
*Something that's thin and light since I'll be taking it to and from classes
I was actually looking at a custom Sony VAIO, I'll post the specs underneath and you can check it out and tell me what you think. Thanks in advance!

Intel® Core™ i5 2520M processor (2.50GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 3.20GHz
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Black
13.3" VAIO Display with LED backlight (1366 x 768)
AMD Radeon™ 6470M GPU (512MB VRAM) hybrid graphics with Intel® Wireless Display technology
500GB Hard Drive (7200rpm)
4GB (4GBx1) DDR3-SDRAM-1333
CD/DVD Player / Burner
Standard capacity battery

Home >All Categories > Computers & Internet >Hardware >Monitors >Open QuestionAndrew Burgos Andrew Burgos Member since:October 06, 2010Total points:106 (Level 1)Hi everyone,
I was wondering I just got (end of last year) anew laptop with a GMA 4500m and while the native resolution is 1366x768 I like it better in 800x600 and because games work the best in that resolution, is it being phased out? Also what is low HD or standard? Is it 480p 720p 1080p?Answer Question

Evilsqirrel by Evilsqir... Member since:June 02, 2009Total points:377 (Level 2)first of all, 1024x768 has gone down to being the low standard, second, the computer monitors run off a different standard that is not descrobed my that. 800x600 would be equivalent to about 300p, or 300i if you have an ancient monitor. difference between 300p and 300i would be the way the screen displays the pixels. it displays them in order like line 1, then 2, then 3 if you are on the P scan(short for progressive scan.) I scan(interlaced scan) runs like line1,3,5,7 then go back and do 2,4,6,8.

Open Question: Is this computer build ok for gaming?

Open Question: Is this computer build ok for gaming?

You're good. Everything's compatible - Socket AM3, DDR3, SATA.

I hope your memory is 2x 2GB rather than a single 4GB stick so you get dual channel memory activated.

A Phenom II x4 955/965/970 would be just as good a gaming processor as the 1090T, but cheaper. Games rarely use 3 cores, never more than 4. The extra cores on the x6 will be wasted on games. (They are good for video editing, however)

Take the money you save and put it toward a better video card. The better the card, the higher framerate you will see. If your monitor is 1080p, I really prefer seeing at least a Radeon HD 6870 in the case.

775W is way more than you need for that 5770 video card and processor, but it does give you the option to add a second video card in CrossFire in the future, making it a decent choice.
