Open Question: I have a pretty good video card. I have a HDMI slot and a VGA slot and 2 monitors hooked up, is this ok?
You're only running 2D software so most reasonably ok cards can handle this well - it's 3D gaming with modern games that makes your graphics card work hard.

Open Question: Why does my computer do this and how to fix it?
Open Question: Is it safe for me to use clorox bleach on my hard drive?
Most hard drive manufacturers use aluminum platters coated with iron oxide, however IBM used glass platters, before they sold their hard drive manufacturing to Hitachi. Hitachi may still use glass platters, and so if the drives in question are Hitachi-made, then if you open the cases, you may be able to shatter the platters, which will make them impossible to access and recover data from.
If you need to destory the data without tools, thermite might be a suitable solution for you. Bare in mind that it's unstable and gets extremely hot very quickly, but it will melt through the case and burn the hell out of the platters, leaving nothing intact. Otherwise, just pay $5 on ebay for a screwdriver kit and disassemble it yourself.
If the drive is still usable, you can use DBAN. It has a number of options that each erase the hard drive by writing a string of random characters over the disk, multiple times if you desire.

Get the same type (DDR, DDR2) and speed (333, 666, whatever) as you now have.
Log on to Crucial.com and do a scan of your PC. It will tell you what is available for you.
Right off the bat, I'll say DDR type and 333 speed.
Do NOT put nuttin else in cuz yer MoBo (motherboard# won't accept it.
So, if you have 2 slots #white sticks?# for RAM, the best you can do is 2 sticks of 2 Gigs each for a total of 4 Gigs, but not likely.
You have an oldie, so 2 sticks of 512 Megs #Megabytes# is more likely for a total of 1 Gig. #Gigabyte).
However, ya got a 256 MB stick in there now, so ya might not even have more slots, in that case the best ya kin do is, mebba, 512 Megs or with luck, a 1 Meg stick.
I take that back, the best you can do is buy a new one, fiddle around with clunkers and you will never stop fiddlin' around.

Open Question: How to put shared memory into dedicated memory?
The 4500mhd is an integrated chipset, so it uses your ram as its own memory, it dedicated 64mb of that ram to its own memory regardless of what you do (meaning you cant make it lower). But you have also added (shared) 1.7gb?
So you know, video memory does NOT really affect performance. even if you add 100gb, will do absolutely nothing. That chipset is really weak and NOT meant for gaming. (really you would see better performance if you take away some shared memory, as sharing like 1.7gb of you ram, which you lose as ram, will probably hurt you more then help).
Sorry but if you want to game, look for a better laptop with a better graphics card, or get a desktop with a better graphics card.

Open Question: When is the next generation of video cards releasing?
But don't expect anything to come out anytime soon. There isn't any dates set and the last time Nvidia set a release day for the fermi cards (their last big upgrade), the missed it by like a year.
However, the current market is full of super high performance video cards which are exponentially better than only a couple year ago. This is due to the dual GPU trend where a single video card has 2 GPU's.
If you want something that is 'next generation' look at those.
Some examples are:
Nvidia GTX 590
Nvidia eVGA GTX 460 '2Win'
Radeon HD 6990
Also, you could consider using SLI or Crossfire technologies which use 2 video cards at the same time. This gets the same effect as those cards listed about to but instead of 1 card you have 2.

Open Question: I have two questions regarding my laptop and my ipod touch?
The reason why I am being impatient about this is because my iPod touch is synched on my laptop and I want to upload some more songs on my iPod touch rather than my old crappy fifth generation iPod with only the left speaker working.
I have tried installing programs in which I can transfer my iPod touch songs and apps onto my mother's laptop (which I am currently using), but the free trial only uploads 3 or 10 songs, and I am too cheap to buy the full version.
Another worry I have is that the guys fixing my computer may have to delete all my data to fix my computer and I don't want to re-upload all those songs again.
I need help knowing how I can cope with the wait and get rid of negative thoughts about my laptop.
Q2: Is there any way I can add songs/edit playlists on my iPod touch on a computer it is not synched to without deleting everything? If so, how?

Open Question: Is there an easy way to see if you can play a video game according to your graphics card?
for example is it an Nvidia 280.
Problem is you need to have basic idea.
The Order of Cards from oldest to newest series is 8000, 9000, 200, 300, 400, 500
Then look for the 2nd number
From 1 - 4 its considered low end cards. Which are not really ment for gaming. Lowest for gaming would be a 4. [Remember I am talking about the 2nd number such as 240, 440, the 2nd number]
5 - 6 are considered mid range cards which are ok for gaming
7 8 9 are the best.
Same rules apply for ATI based on first and 2nd number.
So for example Say it says minimum requirements is a 8800 GT. Nvidia. Then if you have a 240 GT you can play. But if you have a 8600 you can't. But if you have a 210 you can't either because
8800 GT is a high end card 210 you can't pllay games on. 240 is still a low end card, but its the most basic card ment for gaming.
Its all a bit confusing I know
UPDATE:
Ohhh you have a inbuilt.... ya... sorry no hope.
Its like bragging you have a car, and you find out its like a Fiat Multipla [http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/a… Its been rated one of the worst cars of all time :P Just see the picture .Its just awsome.
Anyway ya its inbuilt meaning its touch and go. Most likely its go and hopeless. You can play basic games like Plants vrs Zombies, or Torchlight, That doesn't take advantage of Shaderss, Lighting, Bump mapping etc. But any game which does most likely won't work. Or you will have to play with all the settings off.
Never buy inbuilt cards they are curse on gaming :P

No computer company makes their own components. All computers are built from different manufactured parts, Motherboard, processors.graphics chips/cards, Memory, hard drives, CD Drives Bios, Monitors, and everything else not mentioned
The morel of this answer is Mac DON'T make their own computers, Hp DON"T make their own computers they build them from other manufactures components so therefore no computers is better than any other built computer, hardware wise, they all have the same manufactured components in them Period. Open Question: Which Graphics Card Should i Choose?
there is absolutely nothing wrong to put a 430 GT into your motherboard.
there are absolutely no incompatibilities.
as long as it is a PCI-E graphic card, it should be ok.
i can see you are targeting for economic graphic cards in Nvidia.
but i don't recommend to take the 8400 GS.
i know its cheap, but it is more than 2 years out of date,
you can get even better and up to date graphic cards,
unless you get it second hand and for FREE, then there is a price advantage.
otherwise, get a 430 GT.
it is almost as cheap, and the price difference should be less than significant,
compared to the performance difference.
if you really are desperate for cheaper cards,
get a N210 kind. it is definitely better than 8400GS.
but it still wont be satisfying to play games on it.

Open Question: Computer randomly freezes?
My uneducated amateur guess would be overheating, or incompatibility between said games and graphics card driver (drivers can be updated). Some games will make some graphics card work harder than they should, and these games don't necessarily have better graphics. But when we talk about overheating you can have the graphics card overheating or the cpu overheating or even both.
My graphics card used to overheat after a while playing some games and that would make the computer start freezing like hell and even crash even though this graphics card has a huge fan. I didn't need to solve that issue though because I coincidently stopped playing for a while.
To confirm (or rule out) overheating you can try to run the desktop in the coolest place you can find to see if it noticeably holds up more than usual without freezing (don't put your computer in any kind of food refrigerator). If it does, then it's overheating. If it's overheating then you have to find out if the graphics card is overheating or if the cpu is overheating.
If you confirm that the problem is related to either the graphics card or the cpu overheating then I would try to check for dust in the refrigeration system (fans and heatsinks), if there's dust clean it up; also beef up the refrigeration on your machine getting new case fans if there aren't enough. You have to build an air flow, preferably with a vent on the bottom for cool air to rise up, and another vent on the top of the case for the hot air to leave more efficiently), and put the case in a cooler place, etc

Open Question: Why is macbook better than pc?
Nor are they faster, as they use the same processors and RAM as a PC. You just pay more for the same processor and RAM when buying a MAC.
For what you pay for a Macbook, you can get a PC laptop of the same quality and more powerful.
Macbooks shine for those who do a lot of video editing, MAC has some of the best video editing software on the market.
PCs shine at expandablity and price, you can get more for you money in power in a PC.
As for viruses, I have not gotten a virus in years on my PC. It all comes to down to using a firewall, antivirus and not opening up everything that comes through your email.

Unless you are looking for a cheap throwaway laptop, don't bother.
If money is an issue and if all you plan on doing is "just to browse the web, play a few DVDs and talk with people on Msn", get a Netbook.

Open Question: Can I install a new graphics card in my laptop?
Is it even possible and if so, could I install it myself ?
If not, how much, approximately, would it cost me to pay someone to install it for me?
I'm looking to get a good graphics card which is fairly future-proof and capable of running MMORPG's at high detail with a playable FPS.
The laptop I own is the: Packard Bell EasyNote TJ68.
The graphics card currently installed is: Intel GMA 4500M integrated graphics processor.
I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could help me out here + if you need anymore information, just ask!
Okay thank you guys, I guess i'll call up and ask if they do upgrades.Open Question: can my computer still work without its hardrive?
I would recommend an Ubuntu Live CD. You can download the live edition of Ubuntu and burn an iso to a disk and then set your BIOS to boot from the CD/DVD ROM drive. Have your SD stick in the USB slot when you boot and Linux should detect the stick.
The only other question is, what is on the SD stick and is the software or whatever you have on it, compabitle with the Linux operating system. FAT 32 which is what most SD sticks are formatted to are recognized in Linux, so its not a matter of not being able to see the files there - it may be a problem using the files because the kind of files or the format of the files or the file extensions may not be compatible in Linux itself. You might want to get onto the Ubuntu forum and post a question there asking if there is a Windows EMULATOR you could launch within Ubuntu that simulates Windows and could potentially allow you to use the files or software inside the emulator.

Open Question: when i insert sd card to laptop nothing happens?
A bad card
A dodgy reader
Reader can't recognise size card
Assuming you are running windows insert the card.
Right click My computer or computer depending on version.
Left click manage
double click storage
double click disk management
That should show whether or not the reader can see the card
You can try your card in another reader or a different card in yours to narrow down the possibilities.

Open Question: Three Displays with SLI?
I play EVE Online. I have 3 accounts plus use many of my friends accounts simultaneously from time to time. I have a serious gaming rig that can support many applications at once. That, however is not the problem. I run no less than 3 accounts most times and want each of the 3 on its own monitor. Should be simple, huh?
So here is the question. I want to SLI my GTX 460 in order to get 3 monitors running. Will this give me what I want? Some say yes, some say no. I need a definite answer before spending money. If SLI will not work, what will? I want three monitors and the desktop spread among them. I have a NVIDIA chip set and will not change it to ATI at the moment so it needs to be a solution that works with my current gear.
Any help on this is appreciated. I cannot wait to have all three monitors running so I can quit minimizing.
Open Question: University - what to look for in a gaming laptop?
A newer, better model of the GeForce, the GTX 560M, is coming out soon (that is, if you can still wait for it).
click here for more info: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeFo…
What makes ALIENWARE the best, aside from the fast processor (Core i-7), bigger RAM (up to 16-32GB), bigger storage (2x500GB or 2x750GB HDD), it offers 2GB Mobility Radeon 6970M CrossfireX or 3GB GeForce GTX 460M SLI, which will suit any graphic animation or designing software you would need to use for school (great on any games too).
Dell offers a 4 YEAR ADVANCED PLAN, so that if within that 46months & say, something really REALLY bad ACCIDENTALLY happens to the laptop, DELL WILL REPLACE IT WITH A BRAND NEW ONE.
If you can afford the initial cost (about $3000), you can get it with the peace of mind that you wont have to worry about anything in 4 years time (& a lot more years after that if/when they replace it with a brand new one).
What's good about the 2 HDD, if one breaks down, the other is not affected (you can use one as back-up for all your files, pictures & important documents.
Since university starts on September, you may want to wait for the new models of the Alienware M15X to come out with the new GeForce GTX 560M.
But if you're looking to get an affordable, not so big, yet best in performance gaming laptop as soon as possible,
LOOK NO FURTHER.
Like me, get the MSI GT680R 15.6"-full HD GAMING NOTEBOOK which comes with the 2nd Generation Core i7 Processor 2630QM, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB Hard Disk Drive (2 x 500GB 7200rpm SATA HDD) & a powerful Class 1, 1.5GB NVIDIA GTX460M DDR5 dedicated graphics card that can handle DirectX 11 enhancing the 3D detail effects from FRYS.com (SKU#: 6547393).
I got the chance to use the laptop first hand at the FRYS store. I came back to check out the laptop EVERY HOUR for 6 hrs & found out that the air from the vent of the laptop remained cool compared to any other laptops on display there, meaning THIS LAPTOP HAS PROPER HEAT MANAGEMENT, that means this laptop can handle long hours of gruelling play. Now, I'm all stewed up saving to buy this b4 Blizzard releases Diablo 3.
The MSI GT680R 15.6" Gaming Notebook w/ the Intel® Core™ i-7 retails for $1,499.99 (+ tax & other sur-charges; www.FRYS.com). I chose to pay more to have the newest technology so that I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT GETTING OUTDATED WITHIN THE NEXT 8 YEARS.

You might want to buy this to protect your screen:

Protect your screen from cracks, get a COOLER MASTER U2 Notebook Cooler w/c has dual purposes. Cool thing about it is, you can position the fans on the right spot for better ventialation.
When travelling, detach the easily detacheable dual fan, then use the aluminum frame as a protection for your laptop's screen when inside the bag. I got mine from MicroCenter.com for $15, 48% cheaper than the regular $25 tag (FRYS.com SKU#: 6344931).

Open Question: how can you tell if your power supply can fit into my computer?
It will give you a range of voltage say 110-120 V or 210-240 V and frequencies 50Hz or 60 Hz.
See if it matches that of your power supply.
Also, some SMPUs have an option to flip between 110V and 220V.
The product you gave as link has the following Input voltage - 90-264V ac (Auto Range) so it should be no problem as far as your computer goes.

Open Question: I'm building a laptop through Toshiba, is a Solid State hard drive worth getting?
But the cost per GB is a lot more compared to a conventional hard drive.
If I were you, I would only do it on a smaller more portable machine, where the amount of space is less important, but robustness is more important.
