Open Question: Can I replace my hard drive?

Open Question: Can I replace my hard drive?

Yes as the previous person said you just need to buy a new hard drive
But in order to do this correctly you need to find out what type of hard drive you have
The two things you NEED to know are the type and size

SIZE:
Desktops hard drives are 3.5 inches

Laptops hard drive size is 2.5 inches

TYPES:
Sata. ata and so on

Google image serach and look for a hard drive that looks like yours three are only two types most commonly used in desktops/laptops sata or ata and you

most new laptops use asata witch are pretty cheap compared to the older laptop type.

Easy way to find out what type of hard drive is is to look on the paper tag the hard dive has. it should say something like sata or asata from there it will be easy for you to find the correct hard drive

Open Question: Hard Drive is missing?

Open Question: Hard Drive is missing?

Did it boot up to Windows 7. It seems like it must have since you said IE was on there and that you could open the star menu but it was blank. when you turned it on but how did you run a virus scan? Was Windows defender on? Was an antivirus program running at the time?

There must be a c drive recognized by the computer to boot to windows. I would run systerm restore if you can in safe mode
Or if you have the windows 7 Setup disk run that in CDRom and try to restore it.

Open Question: How do I remove the write protection from my usb drive?
Open Question: can any one tell me how pen drive work?

Open Question: can any one tell me how pen drive work?

The Pen drive basically consists of Flash memory (it is a type of ROM like EPROM,EEPROM etc...) and fabricated onto a pcb to which a USB connector is added.
When the pen drive is connected to any USB port of our computer, the port allows the pen drive to access our computer.(Most pen drives are supported by FAT32 filesystem.)
Now that the pen drive has access to your computer, you can copy data to or from the pen drive(i.e from the flash memory).

P.S:Flash memory is ROM which means it is non votatile .. that is, the data stored in it wont be erased if it is unplugged.

Hope this helps!!

La LEe by La LEe Member since:March 12, 2011Total points:153 (Level 1)What you can do is, when you install your new OS, there's an option that you can configure to not format your hard drive and keep your old files.
As far as I know, you can't only keep the files you want but you have to keep all the stuff you have, unless you erase them before you install your OS.
It's either you keep what you have or you erase everything you have. =D
hope this helps!
Best wishes!

Open Question: How do I remove "The write protected" from a hard drive?

Home >All Categories > Computers & Internet >Hardware >Other - Hardware >Open QuestionWilliam19116 William1... Member since:May 05, 2006Total points:82 (Level 1)How do I remove "The write protected" from a hard drive? I am using Windows 7 Professional. My OS is on "C" drive and I am using an external drive, which is partitioned into 4 drives, with one of the drives containing some of my music. If I want to make a CD from the drive that contains my music, I don't have any problem. If I want to add some more music to another one of my external partitioned hard drives, it is coming back as "Write protected". I don't think I did it, does my system do it automatically? How can I add my music to this external drive other that the partition that already has music on it? It is partitioned into 4 sections. Like I said it is an external hard drive set up with USB. ThanksAnswer Question

Steven by Steven Member since:November 26, 2009Total points:3,699 (Level 4)Windows 7 write protects a lot of files automatically and some times you have to take ownership of those files and change the permissions. Files can be write protected from their owner until you change the permissions. Right click the file object, properties, security tab.
If you copy files from a CD, the CD read only status is preserved so you have to manually change the permissions.
It is also possible the hard drive write protect jumper (hardware) has write protected the entire drive. If you are using a file with one program, it will be write protect against another program making changes until the first program releases it, so be sure the program you are running is the only one running.

Open Question: Is there a way to clone everything on your hard drive?

Open Question: Is there a way to clone everything on your hard drive?

You can do a full system back up so when you install the new Windows 7 you can unpack the files to make it look like nothing has changed.

Go to My Computer > Control Panel > System and Security > and under "Back up and Restore" select the option "Back up your computer" its easy steps from then on. Once you have your new OS installed go back to system and security and simply click restore files from back up, then just navigate to where you've backed up your files and let it unpack.

Hope this helps.

Open Question: My computer keeps asking me to "format disk in drive F: before you can use it," when nothing is in drive F:?

Go to Start and type Disk management in the search box. In the window that opens do you see a drive F:?

A couple of thought: it could be a problem of Windows remembering some USB device that was once plugged in to the computer

If you use a virtual disc program like PowerISO or daemon tools you may have a virtual drive enabled that is being read improperly.

Open Question: What is wrong with my Macbook's disc drive?

This problem just started a few days ago, I don't remember what I was doing when it first happened, but for some reason now, it rejects ALL CD's. And by all I mean even things that have worked with it in the past and should work with it, anyway.

Also, right before it rejects the CD, I get a message saying "This is not a blank disk". Can someone tell me what's wrong and how to fix it?
