I put a password on the hard drive using the smart ware software. Now the USB connection on the external hard drive broke of the circuit board. It no longer has warranty. So, I bought and external enclosure for the hard drive. I set it up and everything. But now windows vista (64bit) will not recognized it. The driver is installed and it tells me ready to use. But it does not show up on my computer. I looked at Disk Management and it shows the hard drive as unallocated. I have very important files that i can not erase. How do I get my external hard drive to work with the new enclosure?Answer Question

The circuit board on your original enclosure runs the encryption system that is required to read your drive. In other words, you can't read that drive on any other enclosure. Perhaps if you buy a new WD My Book drive, and swop the drives over, you can use the new enclosure to get your stuff out. That's the only way...
