I've never used the HP Photosmart 2575 scanner but from my knowledge of scanner software there are quite a variety of settings that you can change before and after you scan a picture.

There are settings for things like brightness and contrast and color balance, etc.

Why don't you check out the HP site and make sure you have the right drivers and also their troubleshooting tips?
