Open Question: Why is my Dell D610 laptop battery not charging?

My Dell Latitude D610 is about 6 years old

I purchased an OEM replacement battery a couple of years ago and it worked fine for a couple of years, but eventually started to drain too quickly, so I bought another OEM battery.

Around the same time I also bough an OEM A/C adapter (PA-12 family).

The new OEM battery came fully charged, but when plugged into the AC adapter, would not charge back up. I had replacement battery sent and same thing.

So could it be the OEM A/C adapter?

Could it be something with the connecters in the laptop? The battery did work when the laptop was unplugged, it just won't recharge when plugged in.

Also, the computer works when the battery is removed altogether but the AC adapter is plugged in.

Perplexed. Any suggestions?
