Open Question: whats better an amd 6 core or an i7 quad core?

The i7 is a "quad core", but with Hyperthreading, it actually has 8 logical cores.
The Phenom X6 has 6 Physical cores only.
Depending on what you are going to do with it, both are extremely fast and capable processors.
In raw data throughput, the i7 can perform faster in a multi-thread application because it has more cores... Realistically? Most applications don't take advantage of all that data crunching horsepower.
