Apple makes high quality products. But, you really need to think about whether you want to go for a PC or Mac, because they are very different.

GO FOR HP
? Much cheaper
? Variety of specifications to choose from
? Wide variety of software available
? Windows 7
? Schools and work would normally use PCs. Having a different platform will be difficult if you need to bring work between the two.

HERE IS WHY I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND MAC COMPUTERS:
? Very expensive
? Limited variety to choose from compared to PCs.
? Wide variety of hardware and software compatible with PC/Windows. Not all software on the market are designed for Mac OS, because Windows is much more widely used. So, if you decide to go with a Mac, make sure the software you need have a Mac OS version. But, you can also install Windows on a Mac, which will allow you to run those software that are only available for Windows.
