Open Question: How can I transfer iTunes songs onto a hard drive, but still sync my iPod?

So I ran a program (Disk Inventory X, if you were wondering) and it told me that most of my memory was being taken up by my iTunes songs. I was wondering if there was any way I could download my songs onto a hard drive, but still keep the songs on my iPod and continue to add more through iTunes? If not, are there any alternatives? Please and thank-you!Answer Question
