Open Question: I have a pretty good video card. I have a HDMI slot and a VGA slot and 2 monitors hooked up, is this ok?

It's fine to use more than one display if your graphics card is designed to run more than one. If you're losing quality through the HDMI cable then check that the picture is exactly the same size as the screen - sometimes HDMI has scaling issues with PCs. There may be an option to address this in the graphics card's software - there is with NVidia and ATI/AMD cards. Better still, connect it with a DVI lead instead if you can.

You're only running 2D software so most reasonably ok cards can handle this well - it's 3D gaming with modern games that makes your graphics card work hard.

Open Question: I Need An Opinion On a Specific Matter About Video Cards?

Home >All Categories > Computers & Internet >Hardware >Other - Hardware >Open QuestionSeth S Seth S Member since:May 20, 2011Total points:237 (Level 1)Ok, Now after All my worrying about upgrading my computer, I have decided that i am going to buy a New computer from Ibuypower.com So now, I have Everything i want picked out, Except for a Graphics Card, I am Stuck between the Geforce Gtx 550 Ti And the Geforce Gtx 560. (I Also Want it to have a HDMI Out Port which i dont believe the 560 Has. IT Has Mini) Now i know the Gtx 560 Is obviously faster, But i want to know HOW much faster, And Is It Faster enough to consider Adding that instead of the 550.There is a 2 gb version for both cards, would it be worth it to go with the 2gb version of either of these cards, or just simply stick with the 1gb. And the 1gb Version of the Gtx 550 comes Overclocked to 981 Mhz. So Just tell me which one i should decide, and if i should get the 1 or 2 gb version. Thank youAnswer Question

Open Question: I want to restore my computer to factory settings...?

I do have the instillation disk, but I'm really not sure what I'm doing, and I don't want to mess anything up... Is there another way to restore factory settings without it? Or should I just pop it in and select "install windows 7"?

I plan on selling the computer, and I've already gotten all the files off it that I want to hang on to... I also uninstalled a lot of what I had on there.

Open Question: Possible to change F keys?

Open Question: Possible to change F keys?

I have an hp pavilion dv6. The F-keys on my key board all have different functions. For example F2 and F3 change the brightness of my screen. In order to actually just hit F2, I have to hold the Function button and then F2.

This is a problem as I play games that require the F-keys as hot keys. Being forced to hold function and the F-key is uncomfortable during gaming.

Is there a way to change this to where hitting F2 is just hitting F2?

Open Question: Is it safe for me to use clorox bleach on my hard drive?

Open Question: Is it safe for me to use clorox bleach on my hard drive?

The answer is no. At best, Clorox will degrade the contacts on the circuit board, but the platters inside the hard disk are where the data is stored. In practical terms, you could damage the board and most people will not be able to access it, but if you're keeping industrial level secrets, you'll be better off to open it and destroy the platters.

Most hard drive manufacturers use aluminum platters coated with iron oxide, however IBM used glass platters, before they sold their hard drive manufacturing to Hitachi. Hitachi may still use glass platters, and so if the drives in question are Hitachi-made, then if you open the cases, you may be able to shatter the platters, which will make them impossible to access and recover data from.

If you need to destory the data without tools, thermite might be a suitable solution for you. Bare in mind that it's unstable and gets extremely hot very quickly, but it will melt through the case and burn the hell out of the platters, leaving nothing intact. Otherwise, just pay $5 on ebay for a screwdriver kit and disassemble it yourself.

If the drive is still usable, you can use DBAN. It has a number of options that each erase the hard drive by writing a string of random characters over the disk, multiple times if you desire.

I have the same power supply, and i ran into problems with 10 or more hard drives when I made the graphics card run at high power.

A by A Member since:January 27, 2010Total points:14,225 (Level 6)It means that it has a weak graphics chip that uses very little power, and a more powerful graphics chip that uses quite a lot more power. When your computer's graphics is having an easy time and not having to work hard it uses the weak Intel graphics chip, but if you fire up a demanding 3D game then it'll switch to the more powerful AMD graphics chip. This is done to help reduce the power used by the laptop where possible, so that the battery lasts longer.

Open Question: I think my computer has a virus its an emachine.?

Get to the internet and find a good virus scanner. There are some free scanners so you can choose the one you thing will do the job. I'd recommend you to download MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials.) since its free and trusty.

Also: You really need to take good care of your computer. Defrag it once in a while and don't download anything from the internet unless you really trust the website/download. Downloads that seem safe may contain worms, trojans, or viruses.

Note: Emachines usually doesn't make for good computers. I prefer using Dell or HP. But thats just my opinion.

Maybe this fix someone on another site suggested will work for you.

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3513/p/18266104/18389090.aspx#18389090

go to control panel , select sound and audio devices, select voice , in the voice recoding box open it and select the mic that came with your head phones then click ok ,apply .. remember what u changed in case u want to change it back.. this should make the mic work
___________

As for drivers, on the link above the person said that no drivers came with those headphones. If they did, you would have gotten a CD to load them on your computer. They are files that a computer might need to work with different devices that plug in to it.

unplugging, probably nothing will happen, BUT plugging them in....i really wouldn't recommend it, since your power supply doesn't change during system is on, it's not like your house installation, your PC power is sensitive

Don't shock your power supply

I plugged in my floopy drive while system was on, whole system stopped and floopy burned

Open Question: I'm wanting upgrade my computers memory, but I'm not sure how and will my motherboard be able to support it?

Take the old sticks to a reputable pooter store.

Get the same type (DDR, DDR2) and speed (333, 666, whatever) as you now have.

Log on to Crucial.com and do a scan of your PC. It will tell you what is available for you.

Right off the bat, I'll say DDR type and 333 speed.

Do NOT put nuttin else in cuz yer MoBo (motherboard# won't accept it.

So, if you have 2 slots #white sticks?# for RAM, the best you can do is 2 sticks of 2 Gigs each for a total of 4 Gigs, but not likely.

You have an oldie, so 2 sticks of 512 Megs #Megabytes# is more likely for a total of 1 Gig. #Gigabyte).

However, ya got a 256 MB stick in there now, so ya might not even have more slots, in that case the best ya kin do is, mebba, 512 Megs or with luck, a 1 Meg stick.

I take that back, the best you can do is buy a new one, fiddle around with clunkers and you will never stop fiddlin' around.
;-)
